Argentine Nationality: Acquisition by Option
General Aspects
-
Argentine nationality by option can only be obtained at the consulate by children of native Argentine citizens born abroad.
-
The acquisition of nationality, whether by option or naturalization, does not require renouncing or forfeiting any other nationality under Argentine law.
-
The nationality option can be carried out either in Argentina at the Civil Registry or abroad at the Argentine Embassy or Consulate with jurisdiction over the applicant's current place of residence. If the procedure is done in Argentina, bring an apostilled PERSONBEVIS (birth record). This must be translated in Argentina. The consulate does not translate or legalize document translations. For validity in Argentina, translations must be performed by a nationally registered public translator and certified by the appropriate jurisdictional professional association.
-
If you reside in Sweden but the applicant was born in another country, you must first register the birth certificate with the Argentine Embassy or Consulate with jurisdiction over the birthplace before scheduling an appointment to apply for Argentine nationality. A personbevis is not valid if you were not born in Sweden.
