On occasion of the Teacher Month, the Embassy of the Argentine Republic wants to highlight the work carried out by teaching professionals in our country.
This holiday has its origin in the traditional Teacher's Day, celebrated on September 11 to commemorate the death of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, in 1888.
Considered the "father of the classroom", and who managed to reach the Presidency of the Nation between 1868-1874, Sarmiento was the great defender of the need for an Argentine educational law. Many of his ideas were collected in his text "On popular education" (1849). However, during his tenure, he did not sanction any. It was necessary to wait until the Roca government, when Law No. 1420 of universal, compulsory, free and secular education was approved.
