JAN 2021 | INTERNATIONAL DAY OF COMMEMORATION IN MEMORY OF THE VICTIMS OF THE HOLOCAUST

Today, 27th of January, the "International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust" is commemorated. The date commemorates the liberation of the Nazi concentration and extermination camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945.

It is a universal commemoration, established by the United Nations (Resolution A_RES_60_7 Remembrance of the Holocaust), by virtue of which the Argentine State, together with civil society organizations, performs an official act every year. It is also a commitment assumed by our country as a member of the International Alliance for the Memory of the Holocaust (IHRA).

This act is organized by the three national Ministries -Education, Justice and Human Rights and this Chancellery- and the civil society organizations that, together, make up the Local Chapter of the IHRA. This year, in which it means a strong confirmation of our country's commitment to the policy of memory, education and remembrance of the Holocaust, which is framed, in turn, in the broader commitment to the promotion of a human rights agenda which has as one of its axes the policies to combat discrimination, the official act will include a message from the President of the Nation, Dr. Alberto Fernández.

This event will be broadcast today, at 12 pm local time ARG, through the official channel of the Casa Rosada on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/casarosada

The Argentine Embassy in Sweden wishes to remember on this special occasion the Swedish diplomat Raoul Gustav Wallenberg, who worked tirelessly and whose life took great risks to save thousands of Hungarian Jews from the Holocaust.
