Death certificate registration

Registration of Death Certificate

Every death of an Argentine citizen occurring abroad must be registered in the Civil Registry Book of the Argentine Embassy or Consulate holding jurisdiction over the place of death.

Any death of an Argentine citizen occurring in Sweden must be registered in the Civil Registry Book of the Argentine Embassy in Sweden.

Registration in the Book allows the death to take effect in Argentina, retroactive to the date on which it occurred.

  • Fee: An amount in SEK equivalent to USD 40 for every 25 lines or fraction thereof, at the exchange rate of the day of the procedure. The exact amount in SEK will be provided on the date of processing.

  • Processing Time: The procedure is completed on the same day. The original registration remains archived in the Embassy's Book. The applicant will receive a Death Registration Certificate.

Required Documentation

  1. Death and Family Ties Certificate (Dödsfallsintyg och släktutredning) and Death Certificate (Dödsbevis) issued by local authorities (Skatteverket). Both documents must be duly signed and stamped by an official from said agency; however, only the Death Certificate (Dödsbevis) must be legalized with an Apostille by a Swedish Notary Public.

  2. Spanish translation of both documents (Dödsfallsintyg och släktutredning / Dödsbevis), carried out by an official translator. No Apostille is required for the translation. If you do not know any official Swedish-Spanish translator, you can contact us or Kammarkollegiet (Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency).

  3. Argentine DNI (National Identity Document) or passport of the deceased.

  4. Color copy of the applicant's DNI or passport.

Procedure

  1. Send a scanned copy of all required documentation as email attachments to consulares_esuec@mrecic.gov.ar. PHOTOGRAPHS ARE NOT ACCEPTED. Documents must be properly scanned in PDF format. In the body of the email, please state the full name of the deceased and their Argentine DNI number.

  2. Await the consulate's response with the approval of the scanned documents. Only after receiving the consulate's confirmation and being assigned an internal control number approving the paperwork should you send the physical documents via registered mail to: BOX 14039, 104 40 Stockholm.

  3. Once the documents are received, you will be sent the information to make the corresponding payment.

  4. As soon as the payment is processed, the digital death registration will be sent to you.
