The Argentine Embassy to the Kingdom of Sweden celebrates 70 years of the Argentine Antarctic Institute (IAA), created on April 17, 1951 by President Juan Domingo Perón. Since then it contributes to the development of Antarctic science and national sovereignty.
The IAA is a pioneering institution in the development of Antarctic scientific research. Its headquarters are in the Miguelete campus of the National University of San Martín and depends on the National Directorate of the Antarctic, the Secretariat of Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic of the Argentine Foreign Ministry.
It is made up of 56 researchers specialized in different scientific disciplines, such as biology, geology, physics, chemistry, oceanography, atmospheric sciences, social sciences and many others. His investigations are carried out at the Carlini Base and in the summer camps near the Marambio base, as well as at the other four permanent bases (Orcadas, Esperanza, San Martín and Belgrano II) and at the seven temporary bases.
