The apostille consists of a stamp that certifies the authenticity of a public document issued by a State to be presented before authorities of another State.

It was introduced by the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961 as a simplified method of legalization. Both Argentina and Sweden signed the Convention.

For a public document issued by a Swedish authority to be valid in Argentina, it must be legalized with an apostille in Sweden prior to its use in Argentina.

The process of legalization with apostille is performed entirely before a notary public in Sweden, without involvement of the Embassy.

It must be noted that legalization with apostille is applicable only to documents of a public nature. To certify the authenticity of commercial or customs documents it is necessary to carry out a legalization without apostille.
