Passport

The biometric passport is valid for 10 years. Validity extension and addition of pages to the passport are not possible.

Argentine citizens living in Sweden can apply for a new biometric passport at the Argentine Embassy in Sweden in any of these cases: loss, theft or deterioration of a previous passport; actual or imminent lack of useful pages of the previous passport; significant change of the facial features of the owner of a valid passport; expiration or imminent expiration of the previous passport. In the latter case, the application for new passport must be emailed at least 180 days before expiration.

Fee: amount in SEK equivalent to USD 165 at the exchange rate valid on the processing day. The exact amount in SEK is informed at the Embassy.

Estimated duration of consular appointment: maximum 1 hour.

The delivery time of the new passport is approximately 4 months since the consular appointment.

Procedure

1° | Request an appointment by email to consulares_esuec@mrecic.gov.ar informing your name and surname, date of birth, DNI number, year in which your last Argentine DNI was issued, reason why you need a new passport and -if you wish- preference of days for the appointment.

2° | Wait for the appointment assignment by the Embassy, ​​which you will receive by email within 2 business days after the appointment request.

3° | Attend the appointment bringing the required documentation for the procedure. If you are under 18 years old, you must be accompanied by one or both of your parents.

Required documentation

1 | Argentine DNI or police report for loss or theft of DNI. The report must mention that the lost or stolen identity document is Argentine and must be signed and stamped by the police authority.

2 | Previous passport or police report for loss or theft of a passport. The report must mention that the lost or stolen passport is Argentine and must be signed and stamped by the police authority. In the case of loss or theft of both DNI and passport, a single police report that refers to both documents may be submitted.

3 | Applicant under 18 years old accompanied by both parents: Argentine birth certificate and Argentine DNI of both parents (or foreign passport of the parent that is not Argentine).

4 | Applicant under 18 years old accompanied by one parent: Argentine birth certificate, Argentine DNI of the accompanying parent (or foreign passport if that parent is not Argentine) and authorization of the non-accompanying parent signed before a public authority, or his/her death certificate, legalized with apostille, along with an official translation into Spanish.

Combination with DNI

- If the applicant does not submit his/her DNI for it having been lost or stolen, he/she will be obliged to apply for a DNI renewal during the same appointment.

If the DNI submitted by the applicant is a DNI libreta (passbook) which does not have blue cover or is not updated or has no change of address registered, the replacement of the passbook for the DNI card, DNI update or change of address will be applied for during the same appointment.

In any of these cases, an additional fee must be paid, consisting of the amount in SEK equivalent to USD 15 at the exchange rate valid on the processing day.

- If the accompanying parent has a DNI libreta (passbook) which does not have blue cover, he or she must apply for the replacement of the DNI libreta for the DNI card during the same appointment.
